Dr Ana McCarthy graduated from Flinders University with a Bachelor of Medicine/ Bachelor of Surgery in 2007, and prior to that from The University of Adelaide with a Bachelor of Science (Biomedical Science). During her post-graduate medical training, she has also obtained a Diploma of the Royal Australian College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (DRANZCOG) in 2010, working at Flinders Medical Centre and the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Adelaide. She undertook Basic Physician Training at Flinders Medical Centre, and Advanced Physician Training at Flinders Medical Centre and The Lyell McEwin Hospital in Adelaide. She attained Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in Endocrinology in 2018, as well as the SOMANZ Obstetric Medicine Certificate in 2020.

She is currently the Head of Obstetric Medicine at Lyell McEwin Hospital, as well as Clinical Lead for the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network Transgender Health Clinic, the only public hospital adult Gender clinic in the state. Dr Ana also consults from private rooms in North Adelaide and visits the Limestone Coast 4-5 times a year for outpatient clinics run at the Mount Gambier and Districts Health Service.

She is passionate about Obstetric Medicine, reproductive Endocrinology,

as well as general Endocrinology and person-centered diabetes care. She is dedicated to improving access to essential health services for all people, including gender diverse people.
